January 2015 Highlights:

1. Aspen Ice Skating trip is scheduled for the morning of Thursday, January 8 (snow date is 1/15).  All parents are welcome to attend.  You may watch (and help) on the sidelines or join us on the ice.  It is highly recommended that students wear protective headgear (bike helmet) and winter wear, gloves, hat, etc.  Mr. Cordero, our PE teacher is coordinating this trip, so please contact him at rick.cordero@shrhs if you have questions.  Thanks to the PTO for sponsoring this event.

2. Our Winter Music Concert is scheduled for Monday, January 12th at 7:00 PM in the main sanctuary of the Stockton Presbyterian Church.  (Snow make up date is 1/14).  All students are expected to attend in "dress up" attire and arrive between 6:40 and 6:45 PM. All questions should be directed to our music teacher, Ms. Peggy Button.

3.  The kickoff for School Spirit Days, selected and run by our 6th grade students is for grades 3-6 and it is a new theme: International Food Day.  Students in grades 3-6 are asked to make (help may be needed) and bring to school a "family dish", such as an old family recipe or something that represents their heritage.  We will be eating family style in the church during the 12-1 lunch hour.  The students are requesting 3-5 parents for help with setup from 11 to 1:15.  Please reply to this email if you are able to volunteer.

4. The sixth grade has also asked me to remind parents that ALL STUDENTS are welcome to participate in the "Stockton's Got Talent" show on Friday, February 20th, to start at 1:45 PM.  Students should be ready to sign up in January with their acts. Save the date!

5. PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, at 7:00 PM.  This meeting is not in our printed calendar handbook, so please make at note of it.

6. It is rummage time!  As you are putting away your holiday items it is a good time to also start going through those unwanted gently used items to donate to our annual rummage sale, March 14-15.  it will be here before you know it!

7. In addition to no school on Monday, January 19th (in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.), we have no school/staff development day on Friday, January 30th (instead of in March 20th), so please make plans for child care on these dates.
About Us

The South Hunterdon District Charter is to prepare every student to become a productive, responsible member of society, able to adapt and change, by providing the NJ Core Curriculum Standards and a positive learning environment.

t         Children will grow and succeed in an environment that is positive, caring, and respectful;

t         All children are gifted, naturally curious, and can love both the discovery of learning and the rewards of hard work;

t         Teachers need support, training, and access to a variety of instructional materials, tools, and technology to support an academically rigorous curriculum;

t         Children need structure and routines: high expectations and fair and consistent follow-through are needed for children to develop responsibility and respect for rules and procedures;

t         Parents and community play vital roles within the school; two-way participation, communication, and public service are paramount to the success of the school;

t         Our small school offers us the ability to nurture each child’s individual development and promote a community of learners.
